Yes. We take your child's privacy seriously. Your photo is used only to create your child's custom illustrations — it is never used to train AI models, and it is never sold or shared for marketing purposes. The only third party that receives your photo is our print fulfillment partner, solely for the purpose of producing your order.

We retain your photo so you can reorder books, order matching greeting cards, and keep your child's likeness on file for future occasions. If you'd like your photo deleted at any time, just email us and we'll remove it. No questions asked.

The pages are printed on thick, FSC-certified, forest-friendly paper. The binding is Smyth-sewn, which is the gold standard in bookbinding: it allows the book to lay flat during reading and holds up to hundreds of bedtime readings. We've tested this with actual children.

Smyth-sewn binding is a premium bookbinding technique where groups of pages (called signatures) are stitched together with thread before being bound into the cover.

We make the quick preview first so we can find the likeness together — because a child's face is hard to capture from a single photo. It shifts with every angle, expression, and quality of light. Some photos hold that quality better than others. The preview is where you can test photos to get it right, and then we build the rest of the book from that foundation.

You can view a full book spread with another Scribbly child as its model at any time. This gives you a full understanding of the story and its illustration style.

A child's appearance changes with every angle, every expression, every quality of light. No single photo captures all of it.

Some source photos simply hold more of that essential quality than others, and it makes a real difference in the final custom illustration. That's why we show you a preview first so you can test different source photos. It matters where we land — it's the foundation for every illustration that follows.

We offer Premium Illustration Editing as an add-on for families who want extra attention on specific details — a signature hairstyle, a particular braid, something that matters to your child.

And if we can't get the likeness right, we'll refund your order before it goes to print. No questions asked. That's our promise.
